Brief
Refresh the University of Sussex's brand identity to stand out in a declining market.
Response
The University of Sussex was founded in 1961 as a catalyst for progress, championing an innovative approach to higher education. Their progressive interdisciplinarity has never been more relevant than it is today. Rather than shying away from their countercultural past, we encouraged them to embrace their unique history to position themselves as daring change-makers in an uncertain world.
Leaning into their rebellious roots, we drew inspiration from 1960s pop art and the campus’s architecture to create a bold and dynamic identity that was uniquely Sussex. From an undergraduate recruitment campaign to a research paper, the identity can flex to appeal to the appropriate audience.
