To create a motion graphic inspired by a preexisting sound clip.
I was inspired by this audio clip to create a fictitious film trailer reflecting the mysterious and chilling atmosphere the recording creates. The poor sound quality of the clip led me to use the imagery of a vintage cassette player. This thematic imagery was continued throughout the marketing of this film.
STORYBOARD
Drawing on ideas explored in the motion graphics works, 'Rolling Stone: Stories from the Edge' by Imaginary Forces and Channel 4's 'Dispatches: Lost in Care' promotional video, I wanted to fully integrate the text from the audio with the live action imagery I shot. Manipulating text on cassette tapes, maps, newspapers etc. I was able to incorporate (manually and in post) the words from the audio into my shots.
POSTER DESIGN
Inspired by retro media of the time, I used the individual labels on the tapes to build up a picture of the crime board featured in the trailer. This reflects the movie's plot as discovering the cassette tapes allows the investigators to build up a bigger picture of the case at hand.
CASSETTE TAPE DESIGN
To further the marketing campaign I designed packaging for collectible tapes that can be picked up from cinemas over Scotland (the locations where the tapes are found in the film). I designed the cover so that it can be folded to either show figures on the front cover or no figures to reference the disappearance of the characters in the plot.
All the tapes can be collected to spell out the film's title 'Hunted' on the spines. Each tape's label is unique and can be pieced together to create the full crime board image.
The inside of the cover shows a map of Scotland, initially appearing like a blood stain. It labels the cities where the full tape collection can be found.
